The Mixed Chix Society was founded by Leova Stockenberger. With her daughter, Nicole as her inspiration and her late mother, Lorenza Molina, as her mentor, she dedicates this venture to them.
Leova Stockenberger :
The idea of starting Mixed Chix Society came as a brainstorm in 2003 while Leova lived overseas and was planning her return to America. She had been away for 14 years, had lost her network professional group in the business world and was not certain how the job market would greet her on her return. With her children grown up, she found that she would have free time to pursue other ventures.
Jo Chevalier :
A native of Louisiana and the youngest of 9 children, I grew up on a farm in a small town in Arnaudville, Louisiana where I followed the advice of my parents, Nathan and Stephanie Chevalier to work hard, get an education and be self sufficient in my pursuit of life. Upon graduating from Carver High school, I moved to Houston where I received a Bachelors degree in social work from Texas Southern University. After working for 10 years as a corporate executive, I returned to school to obtain a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Texas Southern University.
At present, I am a Licensed Social Worker in the state of Texas. I have over 18 years of experience as a Social Worker working for a special needs adoption agency. Duties include the facilitating of all stages in the adoption and foster care process for abused and neglected children.
Presently, a partner of The MIXED CHIX SOCIETY, I share the same goals and mission statement as the founder Leova Stockenberger, which is to empower all women from all walks of life, fun and fulfillment. It is my goal to teach, learn and get inspiration from each woman that I meet so that we can be free to become stronger and more independent individuals and prosper in a global society.
Myrna Galan :
Myrna graduated from The Art Institute and has worked as a graphic designer since 1993. Myrna's beautiful work may be seen in many of our flyers and brochures. She started her company in 2008 and we wish to show our support by featuring her as this month's outstanding Mixed Chix.
Myrna is a very active Mixed Chix in her community. Not only is she a member of our society but she is also an active member with NHPO, Las Comadres, Hispanic Women Network of Texas, Greater Women Chamber of Commerce, BPN, Hispanic Business Network and serves on the board of Hispanic Women in Leadership.
Marisol Graham :
Marisol began her career in graphic and web design 5 years ago and started her company in 2007. Baxter Graham Design has been a wonderful experience and she loves helping new businesses discover their potential. Through her company Baxter Graham Design, Marisol offers logo design, branding, web design, email marketing and print design.
Mixed Chix Society is one of many ways to help our community. Marisol believes in the ideals of the Mixed Chix Society and is also a member of Habitat for Humanity and Susan G. Komen Cancer Research, participating every year in the Race for the Cure.
Marisol was featured in the Houston Chronicle's Comercio Magazine as one of 4 Hispanic Women Entrepreneurs. The article featured the growth of Hispanic women as business owners and her message was for all women Hispanic or otherwise to never forget their full potential.
Joining the Mixed Chix Society, Marisol offered to re-design the website and offer email marketing for the Society, thru her company Baxter Graham Design. She is doing her best to help get the word out of this mission for all women and hopes you will help her by passing this information along to friends and family.
